IGNOU MAJDM Project (MNMP 12) Overview
The IGNOU MAJDM Project (MNMP-012) is a compulsory component of the Master of Arts in Journalism and Digital Media programme. It is designed to develop students’ skills in research methodology, critical analysis, and academic writing within the field of media and communication. The project enables learners to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world or analytical research.
A key feature of this project is the choice between two tracks—Track A and Track B. Track A is a research-based project that involves primary data collection, such as surveys, interviews, or content analysis. Students must prepare a synopsis, get approval, and conduct a full research study. In contrast, Track B is a systematic review, where students analyze 40 research documents without conducting fieldwork. This track focuses on theoretical understanding and literature analysis.
An important requirement for both tracks is the identification of a supervisor (guide). The supervisor provides academic guidance and must sign the certificate page of the final report, which is mandatory for submission. Without this signed certificate, the project is generally not accepted.
The final outcome is a structured report of approximately 100–150 pages, including sections such as introduction, literature review, methodology or review framework, analysis, findings, and conclusion. The report is submitted at the Regional Centre (RC).
After submission, students may be required to appear for a viva voce examination, where they are evaluated on their understanding of the research process and findings.

Steps to Make IGNOU MAJDM Project (MNMP-012)
Track A – Research-Based Project (Primary Research)

Track A involves conducting an independent research study with data collection and analysis. It is suitable for students who are comfortable with surveys, interviews, and statistical or qualitative analysis.
Steps to Follow (Track A)
- Choose research topic: Select a relevant and researchable topic in media or communication
- Prepare synopsis: Submit research proposal for approval through the RC.
- Develop concept: Write background, rationale, and justification

- Collect literature: Select around 20 research articles
- Write literature review: Summarize each article (~100 words)

- Define aims & objectives: Minimum 3 aims and 6 objectives

- Data collection & analysis: Collect real data and analyze it
