IGNOU MBA Syllabus Program Overview
IGNOU offers a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program through its School of Management Studies (SOMS). This program is designed to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for managing businesses effectively in today’s dynamic and competitive environment.
Specializations Offered
IGNOU offers specializations in four distinct areas within its MBA program, allowing students to focus their studies according to their career interests and aspirations. The specializations are:
- Operations Management
- Financial Management
- Marketing Management
- Human Resource Management
Each specialization includes a set of courses that provide in-depth knowledge and skills relevant to the chosen field, enabling students to tailor their MBA education to align with their career goals.
Minimum Passing Marks
To successfully qualify for a course, a student must obtain at least a ‘C’ grade in both continuous and term-end examinations. The overall average grade should also be at least a ‘C’ for the successful completion of the course.
Grade Conversion:
- A = 80% and Above
- B = 60% to 79.9%
- C = 50% to 59.9%
- D = 40% to 49.9%
- E = Below 40%
Course Structure
The IGNOU MBA program is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of management through core courses, specialization courses, and project work.
Core Courses (80 Credits)
- Number of Courses: 20 core courses (coded MMPC-001 to MMPC-020)
- Credit Allocation: Each core course carries 4 credits

Project Course (8 Credits)
- Course Code: MMPP-001
- Credit Allocation: Equivalent to two regular courses (8 credits)
